First word! November 11, 2006

First word!

Originally uploaded by tracicle.

Ethan wrote a whole word that wasn’t his own name. He was stamping stars on his generic-brand Magna Doodle and asked me to write “Star” for him. “No way,” says I, “Do it yourself!” So he asked how to spell it, and I told him, and he painstakingly wrote the whole word.

The S looks pointy because he learned to write it from Superman’s logo. And I don’t know who taught him to write capital A and R — not me! — but wow. A thing of beauty and I hugged him and told him how proud I was, and we took photos and you can see how pleased he was with himself.

Honestly, wasn’t it only, like, last month he was born?

You’re going to hate this. October 15, 2006

So November, as most of the residents of the internet know, is the month of NaNoWriMo (or National [but really global, I guess] Novel Writing Month). I suck as a writer, which you don’t have to live online to know, and Fussy had a great idea which I am going to use. In lieu of NaNoWriMo, I will wholeheartedly embrace NaBloWriMo, or National [Global] Blog Writing Month.

(Yes, blog is a silly word. I know. I KNOW.)

Anyway, I will update this online journal, which some may call BLOG, or even BLAWG, every day during the month of November. In a perfect world, I will even endeavour to provide a photo every day of the month.

See why you’re going to hate this? Please feel free to avoid the Trog (Tracy’s blog, har har get it?) during November. After all, it’s summer now.

Friday, post-coffee group. Ethan was playing out on the deck, but it wasn’t really warm enough for Amy to go out too, so she was forced to stand on the stepstool by the window and watch Ethan have fun without her.

Life is hard.

Also, these are the places I have attempted to nap today:

1. My bed.

2. The floor in Amy’s room.

3. The couch. Three times.

4. The lounge floor, until Amy wrestled me into submission.

5. The dining room floor, until Ethan threw a ball at me.

They say there’s no rest for the wicked, but I thought on the whole I was a reasonably nice person.

Life’s a beach, ha-ha. May 24, 2006

More photos from the weekend: I actually sat still long enough and reliquished control of the camera to Mike and got this photo, which doesn’t suck. Amy was clapping her hands at the waves splashing against the rock we were sitting on.

I said to one of my sisters that we’d stopped at Moeraki and she replied, “You mean the tits in the beach?” It’s almost like there’s a joke in there. Almost.

For the foreigners reading this blog, I shall endeavour to find a better picture of the rocks than the single example in this photo, and post it tomorrow.

Afraid of heights

Goofball Ethan messing around at Moeraki yesterday on the drive back from Balclutha. I like to think of this photo as an example of my burgeoning camera skills — mostly though it was bloody good lighting thanks to a cloudy day, a quick setup to get a photo before Ethan jumped off the log, and I’m glad Ethan was wearing orange or this would be a really bland photo. It’s a little flat, though, and I need to figure out how to fix that.

If I could I’d make this post a photo-heavy one, but I’m not sure how to blog multiple photos from flickr in one post. Maybe I’ll post another one tomorrow.
